How to Choose the Right Kind of Orchid

The process of choosing the right kind of Orchid is not easy. It is important to think about:

  • How much sun or shade do you have?
  • Do you normally water plants often?
  • Do you forget to water?
  • Do you have very limited space?
  • How short or long would you like the Orchid to bloom?
  • Do you want an Orchid with small, medium, or large flowers?
  • What size plant to you want?

When choosing an Orchid to buy and grow, it is important to choose the right Orchid for your environment. If you don't, it could be an uphill battle. The Popular types of Orchids discussed on this page all like 60-80% humidity around their leaves. If you select a more compact Orchid, you may not need a humidity tray under your Orchid, and can instead use a tray with rocks and water. A larger Orchid, covering more surface with leaves reaching out, will generally need a humidity tray.
