If you're
a beginning orchid grower I'd recommend starting with
a Phalaenopsis. Our second choice for a plant to start
with is a Dendrobium. Both of these orchids generally
bloom for about 3 months once or twice a year!

A Little More Info.
There are many kinds of orchids you can choose
from to grow. Here's a summary of some
main orchid types:
Phalaenopsis - Care is easy, flower spike blooms for
about 2-3 months, shade preferred.
Dendrobium - Care can be easy to not so easy, flower
spike blooms 2-3 months. Bright light preferred.
Oncidium - Care is easy to intermediate
easy, flower spike blooms 2 months, sunny window preferred.
Cattleya
- Care is intermediate, flowers bloom 2 weeks, sunny window
preferred.
Miltonia
- Care is intermediate, flowers bloom about a month, indirect
sunlight preferred.
Paphiopedilums - Warm ones - care is easy to intermediate,
flowers bloom a couple months, shade preferred. Cool ones -
care is intermediate, flowers bloom 2 months, shade preferred.
Vanda - Care is intermediate to hard, flowers bloom about
2 months, sun preferred.
Important
tip: When
an orchid is done flowering, cut the flower spike about 1"
up from the base and it should rebloom again if taken care of
well.
